Sometimes it helps to pay less attention

In today’s world of constant notifications and breaking news, it’s easy to feel like staying informed means keeping a close eye on market updates. But when it comes to investing, tuning out the noise can be one of the healthiest habits to adopt.

Market volatility is inevitable. From political headlines to economic data releases, there’s always something that can cause markets to rise or fall. Reacting to every twist and turn, however, often leads to stress—and unnecessary worry. That’s why we encourage a more measured approach: focus on the long term and trust your investment strategy.

Why Zooming Out Matters

One way to see this clearly is by looking at how returns appear over different time frames. Daily returns can look like a rollercoaster, full of sharp peaks and troughs. But as you zoom out to weekly or monthly returns, the picture becomes much smoother. What once seemed like dramatic drops—such as those in the third quarter of 2023 or April 2025—begin to look like minor blips in an otherwise upward trend.

This graph illustrates the point: the same three-year period looks wildly different depending on whether you view it daily, weekly, or monthly. The longer the time frame, the calmer the picture.

Trust the Process

Our clients invest for the long term, and we manage their portfolios with that perspective in mind. Staying focused on their goals—and trusting both the markets and our disciplined approach—helps ensure their investments are positioned to perform over time. Sometimes, the best move is to take a step back, let us do the heavy lifting, and allow time to work in your favour.
